25 - Target Audience

I have stated before the type of people that are likely to listen to the indie genre and be interested with the ethos of the genre, including the music magazine. However,  by creating a profile of a stereotypical indie music lover, this will help to show the type of people that are interested in the genre. I have highlighted that the key demographic for the indie genres are those that are in the age range of 15 - 30's that have disposable income to pay for the lifestyle that many indie fans live by. For example, the festivals they attend, EG. Reading festival. Many people like the laidback lifestyle that comes along with the genre. There is a thought that the readers are often mature, and have a mature taste in comparison to pop music listeners. By creating a profile of a stereotypical listener and who's interested in the genre it will help me to adapt my magazine and content to what they want to see and read. I aim to hit a mass audience. However, I want to hit a niche audience as well if possible, by allowing smaller unknown artists to be the focus to allow them to get more attention and become successful due to the magazine.

School; Pebz is in her last year at sixth form where she is currently studying PE, Psychology, English Lit&Lang, and Biology. Her plans are going to Australia after sixth form to coach cricket and work outdoors. 


Lifestyle and Intrests; Pebz regularly attends festivals in the summer and gigs throughout the year. She also enjoys going out regularly and likes letting her hair down. Along with that, she has a part time job where she works throughout the week to enable her to gain some disposable income and to free up her weekends to have fun! She also plays a lot of sport and attends the gym weekly, she plays football and then cricket in the summer and loves to keep fit and also runs. Her music taste is very varied, however, she enjoys the indie genre most, her favourite artists are Ben Howard, Noel Gallagher, and John Mayer. However, she not only enjoys acoustic part of indie, but the rock side of it as well including Elbow. She has already purchased her V festival ticket for this year. She also spends time researching new artists and new music. 


Food; Pebz likes a range of different foods, and will always try new foods. She enjoys sushi and fish based dishes but also stir frys and good old classic fish and chips and classic English roasts cooked by herself. 


Transport; It took her 5 months to pass her driving test, she drives a green KA. This offers her transport to gigs and festivals and her car always has a range of different music playing.


This profile shows me a stereotypical music lover, especially indie. Pebz has a good disposable income coming from her part time job and this allows her to pay out to go to festivals. Her plans for the future shows she's keen on the outdoors and enjoys being outside. She is a conventional music lover and one that I want to aim to please with my magazine, due to her persistence at researching new music, I want the main aim to be promoting new artists.
