Today I created my first attempt at my front page for my School Magazine. I tried to include some of the ideas my focus group gave me, however it was hard to include them all in one front cover. Although, the front cover is obviously the first thing they see so this is important.
However, I have gone for the 'sports themed' magazine as that was a common idea between the three groups. Another reason i've done this is due to the Olympics being this year.
I have included sport related pictures showing talented people who have had success, and showing the sports hall and how its helped the school in sports terms. Also, events in the school happening such as wheelchair basketball. This informs people of the sporting events happening.
I have also stuck to the school colours, keeping to the theme with the red and white. This also means they stand out on the page and are noticeable.
Given more time to work on it I would improve it by going through more fonts and improve the layout of the magazine - making it look more professional. Again, I haven't included more information about what else is in the magazine, for example, horoscopes or the problems page so if people assume its just based on sport, they may be put off it and not want to buy the magazine.
I would also add a date and issue number to include all the conventions and make sure I've put borders round the pictures to make sure it doesn't look like its merged, especially because the pictures are similar colours.
The font in the text boxes is also around the same size as the main title so it's difficult to see which is the most important in the image.
