The four F's are four main elements people tend to stick to and don't tend to deviate away from when regarding magazines. Magazines are often critised if they don't stick to these. The four F's include;
Function
What the magazines objections are, for example, to inform the audiences about a new upcoming band or about a new festival thats coming up, advertising events that are happening in the music industry. Each month often has a different function and area.
Formula
The formula is elements that make up a magazine, for example the amount of articles and the length of them. This also includes types of photographs used throughout and the effect they have.
Frame
This is the margins and gutters for printing.
Format
The presentation, for example colours that are used and how they relate to the target audience.
